Principle guided life... OK... but what principles will make you happy?

When I wrote the article about racial, ancestral identity and its importance, I touched on something that is not valuable for most people... because I didn"t go deep enough and I didn"t accurately identify what it takes to be proud of who you are, where you belong.

I got on the phone with one of the people who was very unhappy about that article... I was eager to talk, because it is near impossible to go beyond the visible by yourself. It is a whole lot easier when you get input... because what is invisible to you can be visible for another.

The conversation was fruitful... And the insight to me was: it is not virtues, it is principles that form the basis of a happy life... I will elaborate...

Time to reinvent yourself as someone you can love

try-time-to-reinvent-yourselfYou live in a world of your own design... Time to reinvent yourself as someone you can love

Your own design is like a filter you look through. You can"t see the filter, just like you don"t see the window unless you touch it...

A filter is like a pair of glasses...

A filter is also like a pair of glasses... They can be dark tinted, they can be yellow, green... and the world occurs differently with each pair of glasses. You can"t see that it"s the glasses that make the world look the way the world looks to you... unless you can take it off...

You can see only the ripples. The indication that there is something there...

It"s the ripples that we don"t like... we don"t like the things we do, the things we think, the things we feel. We want to change the ripples. But the ripples are the surface of the iceberg... hidden, invisible...

But you can"t change something that you don"t know. You can"t change something that you don"t see.

We all want to reinvent ourselves, our world. Because what we have now is not working too well, not serving us too well. We can"t have what we want, and we suffer.

Download the pdf version of this article at the end of the article

Work-in-progressBut reinventing is a science, and it is not a "from the outside to the inside" thing.

It"s exactly the opposite.

I have done two Reinventing Yourself workshops this week.

Reinventing is a skill... and a process, and something it is worth learning, it is worth practicing, experimenting with, because you have to live with your new invention.

Because no matter how you slice it, you always live in a world of your own design.

Your occurring world.

And your whole self... the being, the doing, the having.

Reinventing is not fixing.

Reinventing is not fixing. Whatever you are trying to fix gets into the "new you" and taints it. It is still calling the shot... and the new you will be a new version of what you wanted to fix. So fixing is not the path to a reinvention, to a new you that you can love, respect, and honor.

I am going to give you everything you need to know to successfully reinvent yourself.

Here are the steps to reinvent yourself
  1. Step 1: Distinguish in detail who you are, the you you will start with, the one that you don"t really like, the one that you hide, and the one that is making your life... not so desirable.

  2. Step 2: Embrace it. Consider that there is nothing wrong with you. Like a child, when you say no to, when you try to change it, it will get you in the end.

  3. Step 3: When you can totally embrace the old self, contemplate how the new invented self could be. Come from your natural inclinations, your strength in the invention of the new self. It will still be a lot of work to become that new self, but building on your strengths, it will be easier and more natural.

Now, I have worked with thousands of people, but I have never known anyone who could do this on their own.

This work is like digging for gold

you-are-far-too-smart-to-be-the-only-thing-standing-in-your-way-get-out-of-your-own-way-quoteWhy? Because this work is like digging for gold. Between you and gold is a lot of dirt. And you need to safely discard the dirt to get to the gold.

Unless there is someone who can hold the dirt, you"ll be stuck with it.

Dirt, in this work, is all the ways you are that devastate you. All the ways you are that you hate. All the things you do that you are not proud of.

I have a hunch that most people are so attracted to mind movies and other stuff, because they cannot dare to confront who they are and how they are... they want to jump to the dream, to the beautiful, to the rich.

But there is no jumping in the physical universe: you cannot defy gravity.

What goes up has to come down... The unattended and denied you will prevent you from having your dream life... sooner or later.

Another way to look at self and reinventing the self

You are born with a machine like self. It"s predictable and consistent. It"s called your soul correction.

There is no life outside of the world "designed" by your soul correction.

It"s like a prison, it"s like living in a machine.

The machine does not care about you.

So what can you do?

With the work of reinvention, you can steadily enlarge your prison, the elbow room you have inside your machine.

Reinvention is like an artist creating a drawing. An artist does not stop at one drawing. An artist creates lots of drawings. And with each drawing the world becomes a little bit bigger.

Without work that enlarges the world, you live in a world that is more like a trench than anything else. One dimensional, and not fun.

The most important work is done after the work of reinvention: allowing a slightly bigger, a slightly different world to show up.

I am sharing the method I used to take myself from a vibration of 85 to a vibration of 930.

Am I promising that you"ll get to the same vibrational level where I am? I am not promising anything.

You"ll get what you get.

Your vibrational level will be consistent with the number of times you reinvent yourself as a new person, the variety of ways that new person is, the amount of presence and work you invest in being that new person.

And ultimately the number of spiritual capacities you have to do the work.

Spiritual capacities, like curiosity, astuteness, awareness, patterns, creating mental representation, ownership, causing... remember, there are 160 capacities.

You, most likely, have five capacities. Maybe seven. And most likely you feel smart, and you feel that you can have everything you ever wanted with what you have.

reinvent-yourself-373043.2The most frequent question I am never asked is this: how do you be that new person?

Because inventing a new self is only the starting point. The seed level. Then you need to grow a full grown tree.

And unless you do it, you won"t... duh.

I remember spending 10 hours straight distinguishing the beingness of brilliance and contribution.

It happened 29 years ago: I needed a job: I was desperate. Someone asked: why should they give you a job? I answered: I am brilliant and a contribution.

I was neither brilliant nor a contribution at the time, I invented it. [note]In fact I was a know-it-all, and a helping junkie...[/note]

The interview was the next day, so I stayed up all night. I stood in front of the mirror, talking to "the person in the mirror" because you can"t do this work alone successfully.

I saw that having answers, talking much is not brilliant... Brilliant is not a result: it"s a starting point, a way to look. A way to listen. A way to relate to things.

That what I already knew had nothing in common with brilliance, in fact brilliance comes from the willingness to look, to ask questions, to be there for the thing to show itself.

And I saw that doing good work, what I think is good, what I think needs to get done is not a contribution. Or helping... A contribution begins with what the job, "the other" wants and needs.

I saw that if I squarely put my attention, if I merge with what "the other" wants, I can be a contribution.

Instant result... and THEN month of practice

Next morning I got hired on the spot, even though I went to that interview after a night of not even getting to bed.

I practiced those two new beings for a few months before I tried my hand on "generosity"... "respect"... "authenticity"... Powerful, winner... all new invented selves.

Each time my vibration rose, and the prison got bigger.

One new element of my workshops, the inventing of a new self, is that I can now muscle test if the person, the participant has the capacity to be that new self. It"s dangerous to assume that you can be anything... it is a lie.

You have the capacity to be some things, maybe even well, but you needs more capacities to be other things.

So beware... don"t invent pie in the sky.

PS: In a call this morning I discovered what is the capacity that is missing to succeed in inventing yourself successfully and then be that new person.

I"ll write an article about that... You"ll be surprised. Guaranteed. Here is the link... it will be active at 10 am, May 23...

invent-yourselfPPS: here is an excellent quote
“invent yourself and then reinvent yourself,
don"t swim in the same slough.
invent yourself and then reinvent yourself and
stay out of the clutches of mediocrity.

invent yourself and then reinvent yourself,
change your tone and shape so often that they can never categorize you.

reinvigorate yourself and
accept what is
but only on the terms that you have invented
and reinvented.

be self-taught.

and reinvent your life because you must;
it is your life and
its history
and the present
belong only to
you.”

Pattern recognition... or how widely and how deeply do you see?

From time to time I watch an animated feature movie on Netflix.

Those movies have the most clues for inner world patterns of all the movies... even though they are clearly designed to distribute memes... to train the next generations to become sheep.

But the artists that make the movies unwittingly, or defiantly, place some fundamental guidance and truth in those movies.

So it is with this little movie: Leap. (In other languages it is called the Ballerina)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDuCKktXTo8

It"s about a little orphan girl who lives in an orphanage, but dreams about becoming a dancer... a ballet dancer. She escapes the orphanage and goes to Paris to enroll in the famed ballet institute... to fulfill on her dream.

Through unpredictable events, she does... and though she can"t dance... a cleaning lady she finds turns out to be an ex famous dancer, until an accident made her an cripple. And she will become her mentor.

OK, here are the principles in the movie that stirred my inside up and explained a lot of things to me about me:
  • 1. When you or any one asks: why do you "dance" or whatever you picked to do with your life, the motivation to "dance" is inner, and inexhaustible... like a spring. Not money, not fame, but that inner spring.

You can simply ask yourself. If you say: because I like it... meh. It has to be deeper to make you want to do the work it takes to become good at anything, including the things you are naturally good at.

I learned an expression in Landmark. I don"t know where it came from, probably some famous philosopher. It says: "I can do no other"... Ed Deci, a psychologist, is trying to get to the source of this "I can do no other"... but of course it is fully in the invisible, so he can"t. You have to feel it.

Some aspects of architecture held "I can do no other" for me, but not more than 3%. The rest was drudgery.
  • 2. When you find that "I can do no other" then even teaching it, mentoring someone to do it, someone who has talent and that magical piece, will make you come alive...

I left architecture in 1988... and haven"t missed it. Not at all. That should tell you something.
  • 3. There is a huge gap between being just naturally good at something and the thing... The shift that bridges the gap comes to our young heroine in the form of gently falling bird feathers, that land softly.

She gets it... that is what was missing... that quality of floating... Once she gets that, she becomes trainable, because she is not on the inside of the gap.
  • 4. Once our heroine gets inside, she cannot be abused, called nothing, and cannot be victim. She will find her inner courage to say who she is, and protect it with all she has. Fiercely.

You can see that the process is not a 1-2-3 simple Huffington Post article... It is a process of becoming.

Another dance student dances, but dances without a heart. She dances because her mother wants her to. She could do anything... her heart isn"t into it. She is told what exercises to do... but no exercise gives you a heart. And although she will fight against anyone who threatens her, she isn"t able to fight FOR something, because she has no FOR.

Starts out and ends being the same person... no becoming. The "normal" result of a Huffington Post article... I am not picking on the Huffington Post... any and every 7-10% truth value article writer is without a depth, and without a heart.

In all of my observation of article writers I have seen only one person go through that gap... and become something else. James Altucher... and even he is not conscious of it, so he isn"t really nurturing the practices that got him there.
And if you are interested what was the 3% in architecture that supported me for 22 years so my spirit didn"t die was being fascinated with the invisible part of architecture, the inner dynamic of spaces.

Inner patterns, you could say. And little by little, with lots of wild turns, today I get to spend 50% of my time being engaged, examining, pondering, and discovering these inner patterns, with inner dynamic.

The rest of the time I sleep, and do mundane stuff... like everyone.

But my life is not mundane, albeit looks quite boring from the point of view of the uninitiated.

Get up, go to the bathroom, get dressed, drink some beverage... etc... sounds like everyone else"s life, doesn"t it?

But life has magic in it if you manage to hear your "I can do no other" calling.

PS: It turns out the Luther said that "I cannot and will not recant anything, for to go against conscience is neither right nor safe. Here I stand, I can do no other, so help me God. Amen." in April 1521. In German, of course.

PPS: Most people are blind to patterns. Most people are totally blind to the invisible. And most people can"t see it even when it"s pointed out to them. Let alone everywhere...

Find what is unique and special about you and hone it. Find mentor... do not go on your own. You can only get so far without a mentor. Guaranteed.

Of course if you are reserved, if you are unwilling to own what"s moving you, then you will be unwilling to get a mentor... and you"ll have a life of quiet desperation, like everyone else, in spite of your unique talent.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TV8lMFx4iaI

And because pattern recognition requires you to have certain spiritual capacities active, 99% of humanity has no access to it. In order to recognize patterns, 1. you need to be able to see the bigger picture, for example. 2. You need to see what"s in front of you, not a picture of it in your mind.

Without being able to see patterns and recognize them, without being able to observe them in reality, you won"t know much about yourself, and you won"t be able to see what your strengths are, what you enjoy, what excites you.

Sounds weird? Most things you read about are out of limits for you, unless you can see and recognize patterns in a wide range of areas.

Same with values... Reading about values isn"t the same as recognizing values. Same with patterns. And pretty much same with everything.

I am mercilessly removing students who prove themselves not even understanding the issue... It is not a good use of my time to invest in their training.

If you are part of the 99%, you may be really sidetracked by a desire to have something. Fame, fortune, fun.

But none those desires comes from within. What comes from within is what to do... not what to have. Even if it is peace, quiet, success, love, etc...

None of those keep the human spirit alive... instead they kill the human spirit.

Spiritual pattern recognition, spiritual principles... Should life have rules?

One gift my father gave me is he encouraged me to not resist. I went through several interpretations of what he meant... I thought resisting made me a person, but I was wrong. Resisting gave the power over to others, and kept me stuck... stuck, stuck stuck.

This is a spiritual pattern, a spiritual principle...

What he didn"t say that he meant: life, reality is built of patterns, and all unrecognized patterns lead to inaccurate, unworkable, or misleading conclusions. Thinking resistance, fighting, pushing back is a good thing kept me miserable for decades.

Through that he had a huge career, and a long happy life... after very humble beginning.

But your life is based on unrecognized patterns that lead to inaccurate, unworkable, or misleading conclusions. That is the story of your life... but you may not even be able to track what I am saying, and I am not condescending, I am stating a fact.

Why do Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger read books on physics, the ice ages, the shorelines of our planet?

There are many ways to deal with the Universe, with reality, and most of them are ineffective.

The Anna Karenina Principle applies here. That is what a principle is: it applies everywhere.

A principle is a pattern. Big pattern, small pattern, it is a pattern.

"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." By that, Tolstoy meant that for a marriage to be happy, it had to succeed in several key aspects. Failure on even one of these aspects, and the marriage is doomed . . . the Anna Karenina principle also applies to ecological risk assessments involving multiple stressors.

One of my students suggested that the linchpin capacity that humanity isn"t exercising is allowing. The 12-step programs say: Let go - Let god...

I have been pondering this ever since I got the email with the suggestion. At first I didn"t see the beauty of it, but it is growing on me.

Yeah, if you could let life be life, the Universe be the Universe, spring be spring, the weather be the weather, if you stopped fighting it, trying to fix it, tame it, control it, then you would be able to fall into a rhythm, a harmony, a flow.

Aikido, a form of martial art, uses this principle to live a spectacularly joyful life.

What blocks joy is efforting. Resisting. Pushing.

  • All agenda is pushing.

  • All tiredness comes from resistance.

I read the books Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger read.

And although I felt a sense of rightness... until this morning I didn"t see what one can learn from the richest men of our times, who have been able to sustain their riches for fifty years, maybe more.

There is something to be said about time tested success... it is probably not a fluke. It is worth examining, learning from.

How did I get to the insight?

One of the questions I have been pondering is why mouth-taping may effect your life... in addition to not snoring, in addition to sleeping better.

I started mouth taping on October 27 of last year. That is seven months... long enough experiment to see some result.

I can see three things that were unpredictable, or maybe even impossible before:
  • 1. I have been measurably less jumpy, less reactive, less resistant to what is. Measured with muscle test: I used to be 20% on a 1-100 scale, and now I am 7% on that same scale.

That, compared to your 100% reactivity...

But I can tell you: my joy level, my ability to have fun, have doubled... and my relationship to being attacked (for example) is a lot more harmonious than it was. I go with the punches.
  • 2. I am able to see patterns a lot faster than before... in fact, I am looking for patterns, where I used to look for fixing before.

  • 3. I am starting to see my skeletal/muscular system becoming more on the side of life... less rigid. I look, act, and feel younger than my 70 years. About 20 years...

My calves still hurt when I walk, but that"s that. No other pains.

I watched a two-hour video ((
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74F22bjBmqE
)) before I started. The person, the doctor, in the video has some theories... the truth value of the video is 10%. With what I am sharing here, it is raised to 60%... we have further penetrate the mysteries of Life... with this single insight:

Here is the insight: when you tape your mouth, you are suddenly in a position to connect to your higher self, to your brain, and potentially also to All-Knowledge, aka Source.

How?

The axis, the connecting line between your tongue and Source is reestablished when you tape your mouth. When you sleep with your mouth open, this connection is missing.

When your mouth is taped shut, the tongue is pressed against the roof of your mouth, changing your physiology, especially your brain waves.

Some of us would do better to have our mouths taped 24/7. Why? Because when your mouth is not taped... you are automatically in your mind... the mind is a physical location at a different angle... vertical instead of a slight backwards angle... My hunch is that the angle is the same as the Earth"s wobble... but that is just a hunch.

And now, answering the question in the title: the secret of making accurate decisions, the secret of being in sync, being in harmony with the universe, is to be able to see patterns inside patterns inside patterns, and use them like Aikido uses the opponent"s energy... flow with it.

In everything, winners see patterns, losers force their way.

Most of humanity act in the losers" way, the exceptions are rare. And they are billionaires.

And actively working over 90 years of age.

They can distinguish more patterns that nearly anyone on the Planet.

Distinguish has a lot to do with awareness, but distinguishing depends even more on being able to see what you see, not the way mind-dwelling people do: "everything is the same as everything else, except that not always".

The Anna Karenina Principle, if nothing else, put into use, starts to create distinctions but pointing out what isn"t inside the strait and narrow.

By the way, strait is not an alternative way to spell straight... Strait is a different word. Look it up...

Without being able to use your attention at will, none of these will make any difference, these are just words.

What makes it work is attention...

I will teach how to activate it and how to use it to finally turn you into a high functioning human, in the twin courses: Reading and Sleeping.

You don"t want to read? I got it... Did YOU?
