What is appreciation? Is it limited to what you like?

What do I like about leading webinars?

Unlike other people, I don"t speak from what I know, I don"t speak from my mind.

Why this is something to like? Because every time I speak I surprise myself. I listen to what I am saying, and I am amazed, and often confronted.

Today the concept of appreciation was discussed: that "culture" makes you believe that appreciation is talking about things you like... but it is a lie.

Just like in mathematics every number has a value, zero, five, minus 15.

Appreciation is simply giving something a matching value.

Are you hoping for second chances? Life after death, heaven, reincarnation?

One size fits all... What is good for one will be good for you too?
Yesterday a reader asked what is the series I watched all day on my birthday.

The question indicates and unmasks a cultural phenomenon: thinking that what is good for one will be good for you... Nothing is further from the truth, and nothing is as debilitating and enslaving than thinking that.

I saw two movies a few years ago, both have a protagonist who dies but doesn"t know he died.

We see the world through is eyes... When it comes to the idea of life after death, the question is: what does this idea do to you and your life?

What"s between you and you

About 30 years ago, I didn"t have a car, and I had to beg a ride every time I wanted to go to Landmark to assist.

I spent hours in cars, in conversations I would not have had otherwise.

I talked to people at length that I would never have talked to. It enriched my life.

One of these people, half my age, drove me back and forth every Sunday. We talked a lot. She had a room full of stuff, neatly organized, figurines and such.

You can"t see and you don"t know it. You can"t hear and you don"t know it

It"s a rare opportunity to go from innocent infant to all-seeing adult, being able to observe it at the same time.

When I first did the Landmark Forum, (()) the koan of the session was: for you everything is the same as everything else, except that not always.

When you are an infant, for you everything is the same as everything else... no distinctions. No distinction between your body and the environment. You are just as ready to suck on your feet as you are ready to suck on someone else"s finger.

From time to time you"ll see something strange, like you reach out, as always, and your hands remain empty: the object you reach for is out of reach...

You learn the world, your world, slowly, and experientially. Through seeing, hearing, touching, tasting... like a baby.

The more something resonates with you the less its truth value or Why Paul Selig is so popular

Why? Because you like what you are. You are attracted what confirms what you think, how you are, who you are, what you know. ((

A tuning fork is calibrated to vibrate at a precise vibration, like the musical sound A. A piano wire is manufactured to resonate at a certain frequency, approximately, depending on the exact length of the wire. A piano can be out of tune, meaning that its wires are relaxed and too long... A person is like a material that resonates strongly at the particular frequency of whatever "it" is. Means the same thing as "it struck a chord with me" - just that you recognized it well, related to it really strongly.

A person is more like an orchestra than a piano: many instruments. Ego, soul, mind, body, conscious mind, subconscious mind, will, attention... a real orchestra full of instruments, no musicians.

Sometimes your soul resonates, sometimes your ego resonates, sometimes, most of the time, your mind resonates... and it resonates with what it has heard most often, so whatever lies you have heard a lot, you resonate with it.

The Germans, after Hitler repeated his lies often enough, the Germans resonated with what he said, and marched into their death, willingly, blindly, heroically.))

There is no mystery why humanity is growing away from its true nature, not towards it.

Watch who and what is hugely popular? The more popular they are the more people they attract the closer their "truth" is to the common society trained mind. The more it sounds true.

Evolution, social genes, and brain plasticity

Your social genes haven"t changed in the past 200,000 years. They are still the same as when humans were hunter gatherers, the stone age. Social genes are the genes that define behavior.

Where do we see this? Hunter-gatherers were not adventurous. They didn"t go hunting again, until they had to. They preferred to share, to be nice to each other, that way they didn"t have to risk confrontation. This lived in clans, hunted in clans, and followed the leaders.

They judged everything by their first impression of it, or by prejudice: they didn"t experiment, didn"t stop to think, didn"t give second chances. A wolf in sheep"s clothing would be accepted as sheep.

And yet, this bunch of scared followers now live in cities, drive cars, study at universities.
