What is communication? Can you really learn it through a course?

Learning how to communicate effectively is a never-ending task because every person and every situation presents a unique challengeI don"t offer a communication course... I have done Landmark"s courses, over and over, and then more. I have learned some moves, but did I really learn the art of communication? No, THAT I haven"t...

But it is time for me to learn it. Now or never. lol.

How do I know? Well, I just said so... but other than that: I am noticing some envy that is always a sign of aspiration, the secret yearning of the soul. I noticed it, and now I am going to act on it. So it"s time. Now or never. Or as they say it at weddings, according to movies: speak now or forever hold your peace... I am speaking.

Here is a clip from one of my favorite movies, The Guru, where that part of the wedding ceremony saves a lot of people from unhappiness... And it is also funny as hell.

OK, back to the topic: communication: how to learn it, how I plan to learn it.

One of the most inspiring stories I have ever read was the story of how, Benjamin Franklin, unschooled printer, became a good writer...

I read it in his autobiography.

Reading doesn"t teach, only doing does.

In essence, he picked a writing style he liked, and learned to copy it until he made it his. He learned distinctions of writing, for example perspicuity, the word I had to look up. It means that it is like a map that shows how you got to a conclusion, so others can follow you. I think I lack in that area.

This is the way animal children learn life... what to eat, what to avoid, how to move, how to hide, how to interact. From adults through observation, from others through modeling.

The ability to model largely depends on some factors: your humility and... your observation, largely on your perspicuity... here I am using a word I just learned...

  • Your humility which is the reverse number of your "about-me" score, measured in my Starting Point Measurements.

Why do you need humility to learn and model? Because without humility you can"t even see it. Without humility you only have yourself as a resource, because your whole cone of vision is covered with yourself... So you have fool for a teacher.

  • The second thing you need to be able to model is observation. Accurate observation. Seeing what comes first, what comes second, how one leads to the other... perspicuously... so when you follow it, like a map, you get to the same place. You need to leave home your own concerns... they mislead you, give you wrong answers.

If you interpret what you see: you are left again with your good idea... and you are not modeling, you are just going to do what you have always done and have been ineffective.

If you wanted to reproduce something you look at, you would have to do it step by tiny step... and again: lack of humility will prevent you from that.

The metaskill: seeing is needed here. Seeing that is the uninterpreted reality... and, of course, you can"t see it it is so covered up by meaning, and imagination, and interpretation, and ignorance... you can"t see it.

Yesterday I heard a student read the word "perpetration" several times as penetration. I didn"t know if I should cry or laugh. A woman with a college degree. I measured her about-me score: 100%.

A perfect score to not be able to learn anything, to live life by her own rules, and be bruised every step of the way.

So getting back to learning to write:

I have said before. If you envy someone, it is an indication to you that they are doing something that you would like to model. And the chances that you don"t yet know what they are doing is high...

Writing, on the internet, is scored by the number of the people who read your writing, and preferably comment.

I am attempting to learn from a course called Subconscious Selling. In chapter five he teaches how to sell with stories.

He uses Joel Osteen, the megachurch pastor, as an example.

I have listened to one of his sermons. I hated it, but his crowd loved it.

Just like Ben Franklin, I need to find a writer/speaker whose style I like, who I think is not in the selling business, whose readers are higher on the intelligence scale than Joel Osteen"s... and pick it apart and analyze, and duplicate HOW they write, just like Ben Franklin did hundreds of years ago.

People, as far as I can see it, so far, endear the reader, the listener, with something, something I don"t think I am giving in MY writing. Something akin to hope.

That is what Joel Osteen does. And if you have hope, you think you can, you think you will, and you feel happy... AND COME BACK FOR MORE!

I listened to Werner Erhard yesterday. An old audio, maybe 30 years old, on relationships. He was also selling hope, and another thing, I think, a sense, and illusion, that you are in the know of something that most people aren"t. That you are special, better than the masses. A feeling that everyone seems to want, ultimately a lie. But it sells.

You may ask why I am studying selling. After all I am famous for not selling.

But if you manage to think the thing through, every time you open your mouth, or put ink to paper, you are selling.

Selling yourself, your ideas, your services.

And if I look around, if you look at your results, you can see that you must be doing it poorly: you don"t produce the "sales" as you hoped you would. People rarely buy what you are selling, or in other cases you are selling a mirage, a promise that you are not prepared to fulfill. One way or another... you are doing it poorly or you are selling what causes you pain.

One thing is obvious: you don"t know how to sell... maybe because you are cowardly, or because you have some other preconceived notions about yourself, about selling, about others...

You may think selling is different from what you should be doing... and people should just buy your wares, listen to you, obey you, keep their promises to you, just because.

And they don"t...

The question no one knows what it means...

There is a question I ask my students to look for every time they pick apart incidents in their lives with the intention to get to beautiful reality where nothing is wrong.
The question is: Is there/was there an undelivered communication in that incident?

Every person, so far, thinks that talking about how they feel, what they like, what they want, how they are disappointed, how the other one is wrong, etc. is communication. Talking about a thing isn"t communication, it is just noise. Who cares... other people, like yourself, have a high about-me score and they only care about what they want.

Communication is an action. It works as surely as rearranging things with your hands. If it doesn"t, it isn"t communication.

If you look at my articles, I must be just like you: I write about what I want, and I am not connecting to the reader, unless they are already part of the small group who want what I want for them.

So I am not communicating either.

Some of the art or communication is to learn to write, to learn to speak, the language that tells them that I am speaking from their self-interest... the language of the reader/listener, so they can allow me to rearrange their molecules.

It should be obvious what it is, but it isn"t...

When I listened to the audios of the Personal Authority course, I heard that Personal Authority means: you make people want to do what you want them to do.

Read that again: to make people WANT to do what you want them to do. What you hear, and therefore do in life is want people to do what you want them to do, like a slave, like an employee. Be nice, keep their word, perform in life, leave you alone, etc.

Because you miss the first part: that unless people WANT to do what you want them to do, either they won"t do it, or will do it begrudgingly.

Begrudgingly means: they will hate IT and they will hate YOU.

People want to do what they want to do, not what you tell them to do.

Your job, my job, is to learn to COMMUNICATE such a way that they will feel it is them who want to do what I want them to do.

I have some unconscious competence in that, but because it is unconscious, it is hit or miss... mostly miss.

Because I am an empath, I can feel your attitude when you are doing what I have asked you to do, what I suggested that you do. You do it mostly dutifully, or "OK, I"ll try, but I can"t see that it will work for me..." tentatively, giving it a weak try.

So what I really want to learn is how to make you WANT TO DO what I want you to do... so you can live a life you love and live it powerfully.

Isn"t this what you"d love to know how to do? To have the world be putty in your hands, so they can have what they want and you can have what you want...

  • The mother who has been angry, no, FURIOUS, that her daughter isn"t a high achiever in school and doesn"t make her proud.

  • The bookkeeper who has been angry because his clients bring their receipts to him unorganized and it takes more time to organize the stuff than actually do the work he is paid for...

  • The man whose wife wants every penny he has ever earned in the divorce settlement, and also wants him to be available to babysit when she wants to do something other than care for their four children

This lack of communication is present also in conversations with yourself... not just with others.

The young man, still in school, who can"t make himself do what he needs to do to get at least passing grades and feel good about himself. Or to  go to bed at decent times, eat to have energy, etc. Complete failure to communicate to himself with authority and power.

So what should you do with this information?

Try to find where you don"t communicate with authority and power... you"ll have plenty of areas... and consider that it"s something that you can learn... at least I hope...

For me it is a life or death issue. Why life or death? I like the New Hampshire state slogan: give me freedom or give me death! It is invented.

I respond best to a threat-like imagery, maybe exactly like you.

I"ll either learn this or will be forever without an echo, without people hearing and learning what I want them to know. A life without making a difference.

I checked if I really respond best to threat. I invented yesterday that my weekends will be my "domestic" days: I"ll do the dishes, I"ll clean, do the laundry, pick up stuff... on the weekends.

When I weigh what"s important to me, I want to prevent clutter, I want to prevent rodents, I want to prevent ugly. For me. I hate those things.

A beautiful organized home doesn"t resonate in my soul... while clutter does a "ehhhhh" there... So, just like you, I am more inspired by "fixing what"s wrong" than creating what"s right. I am intentionally using the Tree of Knowledge terms here... for your sake.

So my first step in this learning to sell will be finding the words that overtly or hidden have the idea of fixing what you don"t want, fixing what you know you don"t like.

Duality. The either or...

The selling points of religious leaders, like Joel Osteen. Positive thinking is attractive to people because it is the opposite of avoiding negative things, people, ideas.

People can recognize negativity... so they think eliminating them will lead them to a life of happiness. Of course it doesn"t... but hope is powerful, and it can be harnessed to make the "sale".

Same with the Law of Attraction: people are taught to do away with negative emotions... so their "vibrational frequency" can rise to the level of what they want.

Of course it doesn"t work at all...

Eliminating the seemingly opposite of something, the thing that is wrong, cements the worldview that there is something wrong with the world, with you, with the other.

But unless you put yourself squarely into the worldview of the other, they won"t hear you.

And I think this is what is in common disservice between Werner Erhard, Joel Osteen, and the countless new age "spiritual" teachers... Your worldview gets even more entrenched by listening to them, learning from them.

Your seed level from which you grow your life. Wretched.

As you can see, I have no idea how to sell the idea that will make you want to do what I want you to do... take apart your stories with the intention of getting to reality where nothing is wrong.

Learning how to communicate effectively is a never-ending task because every person and every situation presents a unique challengeIn my 20-day learning challenge, this is the challenge for me.

It will, probably, take more than 20 days to see what would work, what can work.

It will take as long as it will take. I have time.

What can YOU expect from any program? Self-improvement, spiritual growth, making money, etc.

The most popular page on this site, www.yourvibration.com, is my Mind Movies review page.

So I decided to add a few words to it... I added this today:
Bad news: no matter what program you buy, if you remain the same inside, small, arrogant, and fearful, no program will do anything for you... For most people there is a schasm, a big divide between what they want and what they do... And that big divide needs to be bridged by small purposeful actions. But the problem I see with any results based goal setting program: most people are incapable of designing the small actions, let alone doing them. So the success rate of a program like Mind Movies is way less than 1%...

Call me blunt, call me judgmental... I don"t care.

I am going to share, in this article, some of the judgmental sounding questions I ask when I try to get a full picture about someone who is asking for help.

As you probably don"t know, judgment comes from ego, from comparison. I am smart and you are stupid... that is judgment.

You are stupid isn"t judgment unless you feel something in your chest or throat as you say it. Unless it means something about you.

I feel nothing, or maybe sadness, when I ask these assessment question... that help me make sense out of the convoluted picture each person is.

One of the most useful things I have ever done for myself

One of the most useful things I have ever done is this:

I would find a mentor. I offered my services to do whatever needed done. More often than not I learned useful skills through the doing. Skills that I needed for myself. And while I was around the mentor, I could learn from him.

Life needs a lot of skills to do life successfully. The opportunities to learn those skills is sparse... Because skills are not knowledge, even if they are mental, intellectual skills: they are the ability to do, to perform a skill... not to understand it.

Getting really smart is scary

One thing the book Flowers for Algernon did not prepare me for is how scary it is to get too smart too quickly.

I have been experimenting with different capacities... what they do, what behavior, what insight they possible.

One of these capacities increased my capacity (it had been turned on, but not fully utilized by me) to see many steps ahead and act accordingly.

And for the first time since I started this work, I got scared.

After the DNA capacity activated: what is it like?

Some unexpected fallouts and insights from activating the newly discovered DNA capacity to all those people...

Suddenly this client thinks, for the first time, to ask how to speak to her mother in law who goes to her house, picks up her ironing and cleans her house...

Here is the whole conversation... this is an issue that SHOULD come up for everyone, because the idea of being interested in how a communication lands is one of those things, being able to see the consequences of your action. Communication is action!

So here is the email conversation where I teach her how to 1. be appreciative 2. be kind 3. be effective without forcing, without blaming, without making the other person defensive, and yet have a good chance to have the result you want... eventually.

Okay I am taking the courage to e mail what came up today. Perhaps it is as a result of the activation.

I came home to find my mother in law had been in our house and had taken it upon herself to take my ironing with her and do cleaning in the house.

While some would like this it is different for me.

I find it an intrusion of my space and boundaries. Of course I am mad and want to tell her to stop but fear the consequences. The ego comes up saying leave it alone your only making a big deal out of nothing.

Is this coming up for me to move through the fear of saying what I want to say?

I really would appreciate your insight.

Many thanks

but you are still stuck with the binary option... yell at her/say nothing.

I had something like this happen to me this morning, and I saw that there is a third option: gently suggesting. so I did. it wasn"t as smooth as I thought it was going to be, but it wasn"t hurtful either.

consider that your mother in law is best for you if she isn"t offended...

My issue was with my chiropractor, and instead of telling him how bad the last session was, I suggested this: Maybe we could try this...

So what can you tell your mother in law with a maybe? Maybe next time she could ask if it"s ok? Maybe she could help with something you do need help with?

The question is: are you willing to be generous of heart?

Thank you,
Sophie

Okay well what I really want to say is that I will ask for help if I need it but I don"t want her coming into my space unless I ask her to. It is a privacy thing and I want my own space and for her to repect that . I feel this really important for me.

It is how to say it without offending is the issue but that it won"t keep happening.

When you say are you willing to be generous of heart is do you mean that with her in this issue?

Thanks

Can I connect directly to your Consciousness to get you well?

Unexpectedly, I am finding myself doing health coaching on the Reclaim program.

Although that wasn"t my original intention, it turns out that if someone chooses to get well, get enough energy to live life well, to relate well, to find and live a purposeful life, then health coaching is their path, and my job is to accommodate it.

It"s a whole different coaching experience than my $200 per session health coaching: here I get daily feedback for weeks or months... invaluable.

I know it is a shocking and offending title. Neither shocking nor offending is my purpose. I want to teach you something... so bear with me... I need to take you through the steps, so you get what I mean... how you lie, and why it prevents you from growing and being happy.
What is language?
Language is a mode of communication, Humans communicate, animals communicate, plants communicate.

Plants communicate with posture, with chemicals, with smell.
Animals communicate with posture, with touch, with chemicals, and with sound.
Humans also communicate all those ways, except humans, eve though they could be, are unaware, unconscious, and consider language the only communication. Not all humans, mind you, but the majority.

The bug free mind book is a great vehicle to take you to a place of power, freedom, and self-expression, but only if your relationship to it is through your body, not through your understanding.

I have trouble understanding why you see A Bug Free Mind as valuable if 90% is rubbish and Andy is only 195 vibration.

Being, Granting Beingness, granting being, allowing to be

.

Whatever you resist, make wrong, want to change, fix, and can"t leave alone, hooks you and makes you prisoner.

Now, here is the rub. Talking about flying isn"t. Talking about beingess isn"t.

Beingness is created by WORD, but talking about it doesn"t do anything for anyone.

Werner Erhard talks about beingness, Ron L. Hubbard talked about beingess, the gurus talk about beingness...

NEW: No one can hear you... I mean, not really! A profound sense of being misunderstood

http://www.yourvibration.com/wp-content/uploads/misunderstood-genius-calvin-hobbes.jpeg
The art of being heard the right way

On the Playground, last Tuesday"s topic was "Not being heard... Being misunderstood"

Every person had at least one painful incident where their speaking was earning them grief and heart ache, instead of what they wanted. Appreciation, understanding, equality, or love.

The most interesting thing was that when we looked, each and every one of us were repeating and repeating the incident in our lives, the same way, expecting a different result.

I had the same experience with clients before: until the "original" incident is drained of all the pain and charge, they were repeating it, and, listen up, unwilling to learn the way to be always heard, to be always known, to be never be hurt again, to be effective... the art of communication anything to anyone.

I remember when I first "learned" the art, I had no idea what I learned, so it went away. But until then there was nothing I could tell anyone, there was nothing I asked of anyone that wasn"t met with success, cooperation, support, and a delight.

I was on your webinar (the new context webinar!) this past Wed July 17th. I don"t know if this is something that is of any importance to you, but you scare the shit out of me. I"m not looking for a hug or anything. However, I spent a good deal of time being concerned that...
